The Baptism of Sophie Erickson
Saave Eirikssen was born on July 22, 18831 in Rauland, Norway to parents Johannes Eirikssen and Birgit Rasmusdatter. Johannes was 19 years old at the time, and Birgit was 28. Saave was baptized on August 12, 1883. Her sponsors were Kristi Endresdtr. from Listøl, Olav Olavsson from Bitustøl, Olav Olavsson from Svalestuen, Torgeir Aslaksson from Traaen and Ingebjørg Olavsdtr. from Gaardsjord. I am not sure who all of these people were, but I think they are worth looking into.
By May of 1885, Saave and her parents were living almost 4,000 miles away in Vernon, Dodge County, Minnesota.2 Minnesota Historical Society. Minnesota State Population Census Schedules, 1865-1905. More will be written about Sophie in future posts, but I just wanted to take a moment to mention that she was baptized on this day 136 years ago.
